•Storage backing is an area where computer data can be stored, these can be close or away from you e.g. a USB flash drive or cloud storage.

HDD& SSD

•The disk (HDD) can store a computers operating system and application these are common uses for it. It spin up to 7200 rpm can store from 200gb to 4tb and even more.

 

•There are also SSD these have no moving parts but have the same purpose as a HDD however it lives a lot longer and is much more faster.

•Flash memory cards these come in two forms micro SD cards and SDHC cards used in cameras and smartphones a PC would have a card reader similar to USB in memory.

& Optical media

•Pen drives or USB’s are also storage devices however it is portable and mainly used to store documents videos and pictures, it has from 4gb to 64gb.

 

•Optical media are disks such as CD and DVD used to store music and videos each disk has a set amount of storage.

Portable and fixed drives

•Portable and fixed drives if you put them together you get a portable HDD this is used for PC’s with no more slots for memory has the same amount of memory as a HDD.

 

•Performance factors is seeing how good each memory storage device is this can be assessed by read and write speeds and data transfer rates.
